More Tu B'Shevat

Image
As the days progress, we will be putting more items up for Tu B'Shevat. Today we found the 7 species (olive, wheat, barley, date, fig, pomegranate, and grape). The children liked looking at them and going over what they are. Some recognized the pomegranate seeds as they are a snack! Some students did their "what color is my hair & my eyes" picture. It gives us a wonderful opportunity to see the children how they see themselves! BUT the big excitement for the day was the "ice rink" outside our backdoor. Yep, most of us took a hard spin on the ice while going outside, but then Ms. Alethia put the salt down. The children learned that salt makes the ice go away! As usual, this class likes to be with each other... and is including our newest members in their embrace! We FINALLY got to go outside!

How long has it been?? I went back and looked- the last blog I found that mentions us going outside is from DECEMBER! We are very excited to have warmer weather. Hopefully some rain will move through and clean up the last snow and ice later on in the week. Until then, we will enjoy the snow as we did today, play in the new sensory table, work on being responsible for our own messes- and keep decorating our room in preparation for our Tu B'Shvat class celebration on Feb 13 (8:30 am). See you tomorrow! -Shelby SS5.1: Demonstrate awareness of citizenship SS4.1: Demonstrate awareness of economics SS3.2: Demonstrate awareness of places and regions SS2.3: Demonstrate awareness of the foundations of government

Another new friend and BUBBLES!

New Year bring new friends to the Olive classroom. We welcome the Teitelbaum family to our room! In addition to the exciting new friends joining us, we had a morning of fine & gross motor activities.  The first thing the children noticed was the provocation table set for Tu B'Shevat. We will be transitioning the room this week, having more activities planned around this holiday. We did lots of art today, using different mediums like watercolors, markers, and crayons.  We went to the gym then the BMR to work on our gross motor skills, and BUBBLES! And above all, we reminded ourselves that we are friends!
